HARRISBURG (Dec. 11, 2017) – Auditor General Eugene DePasquale today issued the following statement regarding House Bill 1915 which is designed to enhance the Department of Labor & Industry’s unemployment compensation system and eventually phase out reliance on the Service and Infrastructure Improvement Fund:

“I applaud the bipartisan work in the House of Representatives to approve a plan that addresses the short-term needs of the Department of Labor & Industry to keep the unemployment compensation system operational and make long-term improvements to phase out reliance on state funding.

“I commend Representatives Krueger-Braneky and Kauffman for their cooperative effort to get the bill out of the House and ready for Senate consideration this week.

“I encourage the Senate to review and pass the bill this week to help ensure the unemployment compensation system is ready to service Pennsylvanians who need it and that system improvements are made for long-term efficiency.”

Earlier this year, DePasquale audited the Department of Labor & Industry’s oversight of the Service and Infrastructure Improvement Fund after the General Assembly failed in December 2016 to provide the funding to keep the system operating through the holidays.
