HARRISBURG (May 31, 2017) – Continuing his commitment to transparency and accountability, Auditor General Eugene DePasquale said today his department’s entire expenses are now posted online, and encouraged other government entities – including the General Assembly – to follow his lead.
In 2015 DePasquale became the first statewide elected official to post his travel expenses online.

“As the Pennsylvania’s fiscal watchdog, the Department of the Auditor General should be held up to the same level of public scrutiny and accountability I expect of the government organizations we audit,” DePasquale said. “The public has a right to know how government is spending tax dollars, so I strongly encourage all branches of government to endorse transparency and accountability and post expenses online.

“Since the General Assembly has not yet accepted my offer to audit their operations, a simple posting of its spending records would go a long way help improve the public’s ability to learn how their tax dollars are spent.”
DePasquale said his department’s expense posting includes spending for employee healthcare, information technology, pensions, salaries, travel, worker’s compensation and other operational costs. The information will be updated monthly.
The department’s website also includes a monthly breakdown and an annual cumulative total of DePasquale’s travel expenses since he assumed office in 2013.
DePasquale was also the first legislator in Pennsylvania to post his expenses online when he served in the House of Representatives from 2007 to 2013.
The expense information is available online at: www.PaAuditor.gov, under “About Us.”
