HARRISBURG (Sept. 19, 2013) – Auditor General Eugene DePasquale today said his office will extend an audit of the Susquehanna Township School District to get to the bottom of current board activities.

“School board members are elected to serve the best interests of taxpayers and students, but based on public information and media reports, I am concerned that the Susquehanna Township School board members are turning their back on the taxpayers who elected them and the students who count on them to provide a good education,” DePasquale said. “I cannot sit idly by and watch if there is any merit to the concerns being raised by hundreds of taxpayers.

“I have directed my audit staff to extend the current audit of the school district,” DePasquale said, noting that the district’s cyclical audit was due to be released this Fall. A new completion date cannot be determined until staff re-open the audit.

“So many concerns have been raised — including media reports about early management contract renewals — that a more thorough audit is necessary to ensure taxpayer dollars are spent appropriately and students in the Susquehanna Township School District receive the quality education they deserve.”
