HARRISBURG (Nov. 30, 2017) – Auditor General Eugene DePasquale today released the following statement in response to an announcement that the Wolf Administration is creating apprenticeship programs with “clawed back” funds from economic development grant recipients that did not meet job creation goals:

“It is gratifying to see that the Wolf Administration and the Department of Community and Economic Development took seriously my December 2014 audit report of job creation program that found only 56 percent of the businesses awarded assistance actually created and/or retained all of the jobs promised.

“I am pleased to see that my recommendations to recoup the taxpayer investment when a business fails to meet its contractual obligations are now being used to benefit job-seekers and the companies who employ them.”

“Today’s announcement is proof-positive that Department of the Auditor General audits can effect positive change when our findings and recommendations are taken seriously.”
