Auditor General DePasquale Says Repealing Net Neutrality Will Harm Internet Access
HARRISBURG (Nov. 22, 2017) – Auditor General Eugene DePasquale today issued the following statement on the Federal Communications Commission’s plan to deregulate the internet by allowing internet service providers to control the content and speed at which consumer get information on the web:
“If the FCC repeals net neutrality protections it will harm our access to an open internet.
“This could result in internet providers jacking up prices and purposely slowing down the speed of streaming. People could end up paying more for worse service.
“The Trump Administration’s FCC wants to put people at the mercy of the internet.
“Americans should not tolerate power grabs like this from the Trump Administration’s FCC chair who less than a year ago was a lawyer for Verizon Communications Inc.”
The FCC is expected to vote at its Dec. 14 meeting on the proposal to eliminate the consumer protections in the current net neutrality rules that prohibit Internet providers from blocking, slowing or giving preferential treatment to some websites at the expense of others.
