HARRISBURG (Dec. 13, 2017) – Auditor General Eugene DePasquale today issued the following statement regarding Senate action on Senate Bill 597 that would give the Department of the Auditor General the authority to audit municipal authorities that receive state funding:

“The number one request I receive as auditor general is to look at the books of municipal authorities.

“This bill would close a gap in the law by transferring the authority and responsibility for auditing municipal authorities to my office because we have the appropriate expertise.

“I encourage the full Senate to approve the bill so that the House can take it up in January.

“Some municipal authorities are long overdue for independent state oversight.”

SB 597 was voted out of the Senate State Government Committee by a 10-2 margin. Once it is passed by the full Senate, SB 597 goes to the House for consideration.
