About This Audit
The Department of the Auditor General audited the Humanity Gifts Registry (HGR) from July 1, 2020, to June 30, 2023, assessing compliance with applicable laws and policies for receipts and disbursements. The audit found that while HGR generally complies with these regulations and recorded financial transactions with no significant errors, management control weaknesses persist. These include a lack of written standard operating procedures, insufficient segregation of duties, and inadequate training and use of accounting software. Recommendations for improving management controls and software utilization were provided. HGR management agreed with these findings. The registry, a non-profit organization responsible for distributing donated bodies to Pennsylvania’s medical and dental schools, receives most of its funding from member schools and coordinates body donations for educational purposes. Despite some existing control weaknesses, no significant errors were found in fiscal recordings during the audit period. This is an automated summary.
