About This Audit
The compliance audit of the Freedom Township Volunteer Firemen’s Relief Association, conducted for January 1, 2021, to December 31, 2023, aimed to verify the implementation of prior audit recommendations and adherence to applicable laws and procedures related to state aid and funds expenditure. The audit found that the association addressed two out of three previous findings: timely deposition of state aid and maintaining adequate meeting minutes. However, it continued to fall short in maintaining sufficient Surety (Fidelity) bond coverage, with the bond amount of $40,000 being less than their cash assets of $51,142, potentially risking asset security. It is recommended that the association adjust the bond to cover its maximum cash balance as per the VFRA Act requirements, ensuring better safeguarding of its assets. Firemen’s Relief Association’s adherence to these guidelines ensures transparent and compliant operations that align with its charitable mission.
