About This Audit

The compliance audit of the Gettysburg Fire Department Firemen’s Relief Association, conducted for January 1, 2022, to December 31, 2023, assessed corrective actions taken since the previous audit and checked compliance with state laws, contracts, bylaws, and procedures related to state aid and funds expenditure. The audit uncovered that while the association addressed two of the three previous findings, it failed to correct the unauthorized expenditures issue. Despite reimbursement of unauthorized expenditures from prior audits, similar expenditures occurred during this audit period. The relief association complied with most regulations, except for this noted finding. Management has been notified and encouraged to take corrective actions. The total cash and investments recorded were $977,472, with total expenditures of $216,824 during the audit period. The association is urged to rectify outstanding issues for better financial governance in compliance with the Volunteer Firefighters’ Relief Association Act.
