About This Audit

A compliance audit was conducted for the New Hanover Township Firefighter’s Relief Association in Montgomery County, PA, covering January 1, 2022, to December 31, 2024. The audit aimed to verify adherence to state laws, contracts, bylaws, and procedures regarding state aid and fund expenditures. Notably, copies of canceled checks were missing, hindering verification of proper check authorization. Despite this issue, the relief association generally complied with relevant regulations. However, one unauthorized expenditure was identified: a $2,649 purchase for a Sparky the Fire Dog costume, which doesn’t qualify as an approved expense under the VFRA Act. The relief association has been reimbursed for this amount by their affiliated fire company. Additionally, recommendations were made to improve future compliance. This is an automated summary. Please rely on the contents included in the released audit report.
