About This Audit

The compliance audit for The Gordon Firemen’s Relief Association of Pennsylvania, covering January 1, 2022, to December 31, 2023, was conducted by the Department of the Auditor General under Pennsylvania law. The audit aimed to assess whether the relief association addressed prior audit findings and adhered to relevant laws, contracts, bylaws, and procedures concerning state aid and fund expenditures. The audit revealed that the association responded appropriately to two of the three prior audit findings but failed to address obtaining a Pennsylvania sales tax exemption number, which is crucial for reducing operating costs and adhering to legal requirements. The relief association was found to generally comply with all relevant statutes and procedures, except for the sales tax exemption issue. The report suggests that the association should promptly secure its tax exemption status to prevent unnecessary expenses. The management of the relief association has agreed to address this finding.
