Media Kit: Local Impacts of the Recent Medicaid Prescription Drug Audit
Auditor General DeFoor Visits Elizabethtown Pharmacy to Discuss Impacts of Pharmacy Benefit Managers on Communities
Pennsylvania Auditor General Timothy L. DeFoor visited Sloan’s Norlanco Pharmacy in Elizabethtown, Lancaster County, to discuss the impact Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs) are having on community pharmacies. He was joined State Representative Tom Jones and pharmacy co-owner Tim Zuch.
Auditor General DeFoor recently released an audit of the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services’ oversight of the Medicaid program and their monitoring of PBMs. The audit found that taxpayers overpaid by $7 million for Medicaid prescription drug benefits in 2022 due to a lack of transparency that created spread-pricing. In the last six months, 140 pharmacies went out business because of the impacts of PBMs and spread pricing.
Participants included: Timothy L. DeFoor, Pennsylvania Auditor General; Rep. Tom Jones, Pennsylvania State Representative; and Tim Zuch, co-owner Sloan’s Norlanco Pharmacy, Elizabethtown PA.
