Auditor General DePasquale Adds Philadelphia Location to Public Meetings on Ways to Improve Charter Schools

HARRISBURG (Jan. 28, 2014) – Auditor General Eugene DePasquale today announced the addition of a location in Philadelphia to a series of public informational meetings to explore ways to improve accountability, effectiveness and transparency of charter schools.

The public meeting in Philadelphia will be held on Friday, March 14, from 1 to 3 p.m. in City Council Chambers, Room 400, City Hall, Broad and Market streets, Philadelphia.

“Approximately 120,000 Pennsylvania students are enrolled in charter schools, including 60,000 students in Philadelphia,” DePasquale said. “We hope to use these public meetings to identify potential improvements to charter school oversight and operations so we can be sure that we are getting the best value for our tax dollars and that children enrolled in charter schools are receiving the best possible educational opportunities.”

DePasquale said he hopes to hear from a wide cross-section of experts and advocates, including representatives of school districts, charter schools, educational associations, business and industry groups and citizen organizations.

Other public meetings will be held:

  • Allegheny County: 1 to 3 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 25, Commissioners Hearing Room, Ross Township Municipal Center, 1000 Ross Municipal Rd., Pittsburgh
  • Northampton County: 1 to 3 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 27, City Council Chambers, 6th Floor, City Hall, One South Third St., Easton
  • Cambria County: 1 to 3 p.m., Thursday, March 6, Commissioners Meeting Room, Cambria County Court House, 200 South Center St., Ebensburg
  • Bucks County: 1 to 3 p.m., Friday, March 7, Township of Falls Administrative Building, Suite 100, 188 Lincoln Highway, Fairless Hills
