Auditor General DePasquale Angered by Reports that PA Military Projects will Lose Money Under Trump’s Wall Plan

HARRISBURG (March 19, 2019) – Auditor General Eugene DePasquale today commented on reports that more than $100 million in congressionally authorized funding for four military projects in Pennsylvania could be siphoned away to pay for Donald Trump’s unpopular and divisive border wall plan:

“The budgetary shell game being played by the White House is a blatant end-run around the democratic process. This raises a serious constitutional questions about whether a president can authorize spending without the approval of Congress.

“This is another example of why the national emergency declaration was wrong for the country. Congress must stand up against this action because it sets a dangerous precedent: a future president might feel empowered to declare an emergency for any reason under the sun.

“Border security is critical. We should be tough and smart. The White House should work with Congress to develop a realistic approach that secures our borders and doesn’t hurt Pennsylvania’s economy by cutting military projects.”
