HARRISBURG (April 10, 2019) – Auditor General Eugene DePasquale today attended a memorial service at the Pennsylvania Capitol honoring the 11 people killed in the Oct. 27 shooting at the Tree of Life Congregation Synagogue in Squirrel Hill, the Pittsburgh neighborhood where DePasquale grew up.

“As a nation rooted in freedom and equality, we must stand against those who would seek to divide us using violent acts and hate speech,” DePasquale said afterward. “We must do this to honor the memory of these 11 people of faith who were mercilessly slaughtered simply for exercising their right to worship.”

DePasquale also paid tribute to those injured in the shooting, which included several police officers, and thanked House Speaker Mike Turzai for holding the memorial service.

The Pennsylvania General Assembly proclaimed April 10 to be “Stronger than Hate” Day to honor the synagogue shooting victims.
