HARRISBURG (June 20, 2019) – Auditor General Eugene DePasquale today commented on a guilty plea entered by the Scranton School District’s former fleet manager, who was accused of overbilling the district through a long-running scheme involving his auto body shop.
“Today’s guilty plea shows the value of our audits. Our findings led to the statewide grand jury investigation and this latest development is welcome news. I hope this sad chapter in the history of Scranton School District is coming to an end with a renewed focus on putting students’ success first.”
DePasquale’s 107-page audit of the Scranton School District, released in October 2017, contains nine findings and 38 recommendations for improvement. The state placed the troubled Lackawanna County district into financial recovery status in January.
