PHILADELPHIA (Feb. 22, 2018) – Auditor General Eugene DePasquale today met with leaders at the Philadelphia Regional Port Authority to discuss workforce development challenges facing the authority’s revitalization efforts.

“This port can be the economic engine of Southeastern Pennsylvania because the investment here is encouraging growth in the region,” DePasquale said. “As the Philadelphia port expands its capacity and revitalizes the area, I want to make sure that all port-related businesses in the region have the skilled and diverse workers they need to continue to grow.

“While my audit of the state’s workforce development system progresses, it is important to me for hear directly from business leaders who are creating jobs and seeking skilled workers,” DePasquale said.

“Too often, job -creation legislation and policy is crafted in Harrisburg and doesn’t take into account the realities of the real world, including how it will impact people and businesses it is intended to help.”

DePasquale’s team is conducting a performance audit to determine if the state’s workforce development system, which reaches across five state agencies, is properly preparing workers for the ever-changing job market. He plans to release the results of the audit late this summer.
