Auditor General DePasquale Encourages Accountability, Broad Representation on Scranton School District Recovery Committee

Printer friendly news release

HARRISBURG (March 1, 2019) – Auditor General Eugene DePasquale today issued the following statement about the pending appointment of Scranton School District’s financial recovery advisory committee:

“I am pleased to see the Scranton School District is moving forward appointing people to the financial recovery advisory committee.

“Selecting the advisory committee members is a significant opportunity to ensure that there is broad representation of people who care about providing quality education for students and preserving the high-caliber workforce. Ample opportunity should be provided to receive input from everyone involved in the school from parents and teachers to maintenance staff, building engineers, cafeteria workers and clerks.

“In a couple of weeks I will be in Scranton to share and discuss my recommendations for the district’s recovery plan.”

Last week DePasquale suggested appointees to the committee should not be considered if they have immediate family members employed by the district or if they have previously served on the Scranton school board.
