Auditor General DePasquale Releases Audits for School Districts in Carbon, Columbia, Lebanon, Lehigh and Snyder Counties

HARRISBURG (July 2, 2014) – Auditor General Eugene DePasquale today announced the release of audit reports for school districts in Carbon, Columbia, Lebanon, Lehigh and Snyder counties.

The Department of the Auditor General examines the records of school districts, charter schools, intermediate units, and area vocational-technical schools. The audits — among other things — assess whether or not school entities received the state subsidies and reimbursements to which they were entitled, accurately managed taxpayer funds, and complied with ethics codes.

The audits also determine whether or not teachers and administrators were properly certified for the positions they held during the audit period.

Carbon County
Jim Thorpe Area School District
Complied, in all significant respects, with applicable state laws, contracts, grant requirements and administrative procedures, except for one finding: continued errors in membership reporting and a lack of internal controls resulted in the district not receiving their entitled reimbursement – a net underpayment of $43,064.

Columbia County
Central Columbia School District
Complied, in all significant respects, with applicable state laws, contracts, grant requirements and administrative procedures.

Lebanon County
Palmyra Area School District
Complied, in all significant respects, with applicable state laws, contracts, grant requirements and administrative procedures.

Lehigh County
Catasauqua Area School District
Complied, in all significant respects, with applicable state laws, contracts, grant requirements and administrative procedures.

Snyder County
Selinsgrove Area School District
Complied, in all significant respects, with applicable state laws, contracts, grant requirements and administrative procedures.
