LANCASTER, Pa (March 24, 2018) – Auditor General Eugene DePasquale today told a crowd of students, parents, teachers and residents that their strength and action will lead to change.

“This movement is coming from the ground up, from the students of America who are giving us, as elected officials, your strength to keep up this necessary fight,” DePasquale told the crowd at Binns Park during the rally here.

“Looking at school safety, I knew there were two choices. I could either let Donald Trump and Paul Ryan take the lead or I could take action myself,” he said, outlining two steps his department is taking to address the issue.

“First, I will make sure that every school district my team audits gets a thorough safety check to help make our schools safer. The second thing is that I am doing my own independent investigation on every single aspect of Pennsylvania guns laws to find out what we need to improve to make sure our gun laws are thoroughly enforced.”

The March for Our Lives in Lancaster was modeled after the national rally held today in Washington, D.C. and more than 840 cities across the country with students and families demanding an end to gun violence and mass shootings in schools, according to MarchforOurLives.com.

DePasquale continues to champion was appointed this month by Governor Tom Wolf to co-chair the newly created statewide School Safety Task Force. He also announced he is expanding the scope of his department’s school safety reviews. DePasquale is also preparing a special report focused on finding commonsense gun safety measures to reduce firearm deaths.
