HARRISBURG (May 24, 2019) – With the busy Memorial Day travel period beginning, Auditor General Eugene DePasquale today thanked Pennsylvania State Troopers for keeping our highways safe and urged the General Assembly to adequately fund the statewide law enforcement agency.

"With millions of Pennsylvania motorists hitting the roads this weekend, State Police will be working hard to keep everyone safe," DePasquale said. "If you see a Trooper working along the side of the road, remember to slow down and give them plenty of room to safely do their job."

As the General Assembly prepares to dive into the final weeks of budget talks after the holiday, DePasquale repeated his call for legislators to make sure the law enforcement agency's financial needs are met.

"After meeting with members of the Pennsylvania State Troopers Association, I've learned that they're being wrongly blamed for the $4.25 billion taken out of the Motor License Fund since 2012," DePasquale added. "It's absolutely not their fault; they're simply doing their jobs. The responsibility for budget decisions rests with the General Assembly."
