Says any money used to defend the 2012 law takes away from important taxpayer issues
HARRISBURG (Jan. 24, 2014) – Auditor General Eugene DePasquale today released the following statement urging Gov. Tom Corbett to accept the Commonwealth Court ruling on the 2012 Voter ID law:
“It is time to stop spending taxpayer money to defend the 2012 Voter ID law that was rejected by Commonwealth Court after a lengthy review,” DePasquale said.
“The full cost of defending the 2012 Voter ID law is not yet known, but as the state’s chief fiscal watchdog, I firmly believe that spending more time and money defending the law as it is written does not serve the best interests of taxpayers footing the bill, especially when there is an estimated a $1.4 billion shortfall in the next state budget.”
