Auditor General DePasquale to Review York County Office of Children, Youth, Families

HARRISBURG (April 18, 2016) – Auditor General Eugene DePasquale today said as part of a regularly scheduled financial review of York County’s Office of Children, Youth and Families -- scheduled to begin in mid-May --  he also hopes to help determine some of the possible reasons as to why the agency has been unable to earn a full state license.

“The news that the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services recently gave the York County child welfare agency its third, consecutive provisional license is troubling to me and to others concerned with the protection of children,” DePasquale said.

“Our audit results may help determine why York County’s child protection agency is apparently failing in its mission, and identify recommendations to be considered – both locally and in Harrisburg – to ensure this agency has the resources to protect vulnerable children.”

The Department of the Auditor General examines the records of county-run children and youth services offices to ascertain and certify the amount of state funds spent on behalf of children in the county. While this is not an audit of the office’s performance, shortcomings identified in the financial review may indicate broader areas of concern within the agency that warrant further review by the Department of Human Services.
