Auditor General DeFoor Visits Commonwealth University’s Mansfield Campus to Highlight Job and Internship Opportunities; Encourage Students to ‘Be Money Smart’
MANSFIELD – Auditor General Timothy L. DeFoor today met with students from Mansfield University, part of Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania, to highlight career and internship opportunities within his department, and encourage students to learn how to ‘Be Money Smart’.
“Today’s college students are the auditors of the future, and by working together we can create a more financially secure and successful commonwealth,” he added. “Our department is currently looking to fill a number of entry level auditor positions, and we are getting ready to open the application process for our winter and spring internship program. That is why it’s so important for us to visit these universities and talk to students about what our department does. We really want individuals who have a passion for accounting and public service to join our team.”
In addition to Mansfield, the Auditor General has visited the two additional campuses part of Commonwealth University, Bloomsburg and Lock Haven, and other PASSHE schools including Cheyney, Shippensburg, Slippery Rock, Indiana and PennWest California. He has plans to visit East Stroudsburg University, PennWest Edinboro and PennWest Clarion later this fall to continue his recruiting efforts.
In addition to recruiting young individuals to work for the department, Auditor General DeFoor is talking with students on the importance of financial literacy. DeFoor’s office launched the ‘Be Money Smart’ financial literacy initiative in November 2021 to emphasize the need for financial literacy in Pennsylvania and highlight resources available for all residents across the commonwealth.
“Knowing how to be smart with your money is one of the most important lessons a young person can learn to achieve future financial success,” DeFoor said. “It is never too early to start thinking about how money works. It’s essential that we work together to give Pennsylvanians the tools to help them on their journey to financial independence.”
As Pennsylvania’s top taxpayer advocate, DeFoor has made improving financial literacy a key goal of his administration. In addition to college visits, he has also met with students participating in the State YMCA of Pennsylvania Youth and Government program and visited a financial literacy class sponsored by New Hope Ministries in Mechanicsburg.
DeFoor also partnered with Harrisburg University of Science and Technology on a statewide student financial literacy competition and announced the winners during financial literacy month, which occurs each year in April.
