Citing Alleged Influence Peddling at Philadelphia Parking Authority, Auditor General DePasquale Highlights Need for Independent Reviews
HARRISBURG (Feb. 12, 2019) – Auditor General Eugene DePasquale today commented on a news report alleging influence peddling within the Philadelphia Parking Authority in 2016. DePasquale launched one audit of the PPA and was called in by the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office to perform a second audit.
“This published report demonstrates exactly why there needed to be an independent review of the Philadelphia Parking Authority,” DePasquale said. “It’s clear they did not want us to find the multiple sexual harassment cases we revealed as well as missed revenues that shortchanged Philadelphia’s students.
“This is why it’s so important that my department was brought in, and I want to thank Inspector General Bruce Beemer and Attorney General Josh Shapiro for involving my office in this matter.
“I sincerely hope PPA Executive Director Scott Petri can continue to move the authority in a better direction.”
In 2017, DePasquale released two separate audits of the PPA that revealed numerous management-related problems within the agency as well as nearly $78 million in missed potential revenues for the School District of Philadelphia.
